For over 30 years, Hovland Conservatory of Music has guided students to discover the beauty, discipline, and joy of music through a comprehensive conservatory approach. Our Summer Piano & Violin Camp offers an enriching week-long experience designed to nurture developing musicians from their first notes to refined performance.
Led by our dedicated faculty, students learn, play, and create in an atmosphere that balances structured musicianship with joyful discovery, with it all culminating in a final performance for family and friends at the end of the week.
Pre-Kindergarten (Ages 4–5)
“Discovering Sound and Movement”
Our youngest musicians begin with the wonder of sound and rhythm. Through playful games, stories, and hands-on activities, children explore the violin and piano in ways that spark curiosity and build coordination. Musical play becomes the foundation for focus, listening, and confidence, all within our nurturing environment that celebrates imagination.
Kindergarten to 2nd Grade
“Building Musical Foundations”
This stage bridges curiosity with structure. Campers learn to read simple notes, count rhythms, and play short songs on both instruments. Each day blends focused instruction with group creativity, introducing the values of listening, patience, and teamwork that form the heart of musical study.
3rd to 5th Grade
“Growing in Skill and Expression”
Students expand their technical skills while learning to interpret music expressively. Through piano and violin ensembles, rhythm challenges, and guided practice, campers strengthen both independence and collaboration. They gain confidence performing for others and begin to see music as a language of emotion and connection.
6th to 8th Grade
“Developing Musicianship and Mastery”
Campers at this level refine tone, technique, and artistry. Daily classes include scales, ear training, ensemble work, and repertoire study. Students are encouraged to set personal goals, work toward musical excellence, and experience the satisfaction that comes from disciplined artistry, all balanced with the fun and friendship of camp life.
High School
“Perform, Leader, BE YOU”
Our most advanced students engage in a pre-collegiate experience emphasizing performance and professionalism. Participants receive individualized instruction, masterclass coaching, and chamber group opportunities. The week concludes with solo and ensemble performances that showcase their growth, confidence, and musical leadership.
